Captain John Hamilton Lewis (Louis) Duncan
B Company
Born on the 18 April 1832 the son of Hamilton Louis Duncan and Margaret (Wiser) Duncan.
He joined the colours on the 23 May 1861.
Originally promoted to 3rd Sergeant, date unknown, and then promoted to Captain, 8 May 1862.
In January 1863 he was on detail to gather in conscripts and stragglers.
Discharged on the 10 August 1863 for disability, he was suffering from chronic diarrhea.
Elected Sheriff in Coffee County for four years after the war.
Married Matilda Caroline Messick 05 October 1851 in
Coffee County, born 12 May 1834,
Coffee Co, TN, died 11 July 1885. They had nine
children: Hamilton Frances Marion, George Washington,
John Lewis, Mary Louisa, Evaline, Laura Ann Eleanor, Calvin Curlee, Martha
Elizabeth Jane and Lena Myrtle Duncan.
Elected to the TN. Legislature in 1878.
He died in Manchester on 12 May 1902 and was buried at Goose Pond in the Adam Duncan Cemetery.
